“Return again, return again,
return to the land of your soul.
Return to who you are, return to what you are,
return to where you are born and reborn again.”
Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach
How many of the following statements are true of you?
- You are interested in bringing out the best in others.
- You feel energies and emotions deeply.
- You require quiet time to digest life and its many interactions.
- You want to help others feel better physically, mentally and emotionally.
- You are already in a healing or service profession.
- You sense that each one of us has an inner guide, or soul.
- You’re inspired to explore ways of connecting to your soul.
If you answered yes to one or more of these statements you are likely already a soul coach in your family, practice, community, work place or social circles. However, if you are like most people, in spite of your best intentions you also find yourself feeling stuck, upset, frustrated, confused, and/or exhausted by your relationships.
From the soul’s perspective, any relationship, whether with a child, client, partner, friend, workmate or family member, contains potent doorways into the evolution of both people. Most of us have not been taught how to navigate our way through these doorways and beyond. In relationship, all it takes is one person with the willingness to build their capacity to lead the journey into the land of souls (possibly without the other even knowing it) to bring back treasures of clear perspective that untether our souls and lead us to a life of freedom, creativity and joy.
There are certain universal qualities and abilities that need to be nurtured in order for soul-level relating to unfold as elegantly as possible.
First, explorations within the land of souls all unfold within Presence, a capacity to witness what is with equanimity. Any practice that brings us to the generous and accepting space beyond the details of life (circumstances, thoughts, emotions, etc.) is a foundation for soul coaching. Within a meditation practice, for example, we cultivate our capacity to touch into Presence in the midst of challenging interpretations and reactions that arise in relationship which enables us to respond with access to ever more evolved versions of ourselves.
From Presence we are able to get enough distance from our conditioned ego to witness the many aspects of our inner world with openness and clarity: breath and sound, physical sensations, thoughts and interpretations, feelings and emotions, subtle energies, and more. The second capacity required to move beyond ego to soul is sensing the subtle energy field with increasing sensitivity so that we have access to a vast expanse of consciousness that is the very source of soul qualities like true understanding, intuitive guidance, creative insights, wise and loving perspectives, and more. We have all been sensing subtle energies from birth but learning how to relate to them with clarity is the key to our evolution.
With a familiarity with subtle energies comes the ability to read the shared field. In any relationship the two energy fields join to form a shared field which contains gifts for both souls. For example, think of someone you are in close relationship with. Close your eyes and notice how your body feels when you think of that person. (There you go, you are already sensing the shared field!). Notice areas that feel relaxed and open and/or areas that contract and feel uncomfortable. These areas hold the key to integrating the gifts and self-knowledge that are possible within this relationship. If you are trying to help that person, the shared field will lead you to a direct knowing of how to best be of service. Working with the shared field can be done without the other person knowing it (and you will both benefit from it) or within a Soul Coaching practice. It’s also fun to journey through the shared field together with openness and curiosity to see what new perspectives life has to offer us at this time. I call this Interactive Meditation. We are always mirroring each other’s light as well as lines of development that are wanting to be accelerated in each soul’s journey.
Once we are working with subtle energies more skillfully, we are then more open to receive guidance from our deepest self so that we can transfer our spiritual insights into embodied action. We are taking meaningful steps to shift from the limitations of an ego-led existence to the boundless potential of a soul-guided journey.
One of the things that I love about my Soul Coaching practice is that I’m teaching my clients to presence the energy that shows up within the shared field so that they can nurture this ability in their day to day lives. The more we practice, the more it comes naturally, and the more we find ourselves able to meet the beauty and challenges of life with confidence in the knowledge that life is always serving our evolution. We get to know the joy of surrendering to our soul-guided life and helping others to do the same.
Over the past 30 years I’ve been developing what I now call ClearBeing Soul Coaching. I’ve been incorporating and teaching the various components in all aspects of my work and personal relationships and am now feeling called to train others in the hopes of ushering their souls along so that they can then usher other souls along, and so on….
